Over the past several weeks, the school district has hosted several boys soccer, JV football and the first varsity football game last Friday night at the newly improved and remodeled outdoor stadium at Southern Boone High School. Along with these school-related events, the stadium has hosted many community events as well. Southern Boone YMCA has had youth tackle and flag football games and practices on the new turf field. Also, the high school marching band is preparing to host the annual Southern Boone Marching Classic on Saturday, October 14th at the outdoor stadium.
The construction project began last May and a majority of the work has been finished. The project includes a new turf field, track, video scoreboard, additional bleachers and sound system. One of the final items to be done is to add the rubber track surface around the turf field. That work is expected to be completed after the fall sports season.
The press box was also expanded to provide additional space for media, game workers and coaches. This project was not part of the original bond issue project but was made possible by a generation donation from the Southern Boone Athletics Booster Club.
The outdoor stadium construction project was made possible by voters in our school district approving a $3 million no-tax-increase bond issue during the April 2022 election. The school district appreciates the support from patrons for helping to provide high-quality facilities for our students and the community.
