Construction

The Southern Boone School District announced that construction crews will begin work the week of May 5 on the new vocational and agriculture wing at the high school.

As part of the project, the north fire lane along the high school will be closed. A new concrete drive lane has been installed off Crump Lane to assist with traffic flow. The district asks all drivers to use caution when traveling near the construction zone.

Drivers are reminded that a lane must remain open at all times behind the high school and along the baseball/softball field to allow for continuous traffic.

Construction is scheduled to continue through summer and fall 2026.

The project is part of the district’s $11.6 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue, approved by voters in April 2024. Key components of the project include:

  • New vocational and agriculture wing: A state-of-the-art department with two classrooms, lab space and a shop designed to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing agriculture and vocational fields.

  • Additional classrooms: Two new art classrooms and a family and consumer science classroom to help accommodate the district’s growing student population and ensure optimal learning environments.

  • Roof repairs at the high school: Replacement of the original 1991 high school building roof to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.

  • Parking lot improvements: Construction of a new parking lot and drive east and north of the high school building to improve safety, accessibility and convenience for students, staff and visitors.

The district appreciates the community’s understanding and patience as it works to enhance facilities for the benefit of all students.
