School Board

The Southern Boone Board of Education is among 23 Missouri school boards earning the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s (MSBA) 2025 Governance Team Award. This prestigious award is based on the outstanding commitment of the school board and superintendent to ongoing professional development in effective governance practices. The award also recognizes their commitment to regional and statewide leadership and to active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools and the students they serve.

"We are incredibly proud to receive the MSBA Governance Team Award for the second consecutive year," remarked Amy Begemann, President of the Southern Boone Board of Education. "This achievement reflects our board's dedication to continuous improvement and our shared vision for enhancing educational opportunities for all students. We remain committed to advancing professional development initiatives that benefit both our staff and board members."

Dr. Tim Roth, School Superintendent, added, "This award underscores our board's unwavering commitment to student success and educational excellence. By actively participating in professional development and legislative advocacy, our board ensures that we are continually evolving to meet the needs of our students and community."

The school board in each awarded district achieved the following criteria:

  • The district is fully accredited.

  • All seven school board members completed the Essential New Board Member Certification from MSBA.

  • All seven board members fulfilled the Refresher Training requirement for the current year through MSBA.

  • At least two board members attained the Advanced Certification from MSBA.

  • At least one board member attained the Master Certification.

  • At least a quorum of the board and the superintendent attended the 2024 MSBA Annual Conference and a regional meeting during the past year.

  • A representative attended the MSBA Advocacy Day.

  • A board member representative participated in MSBA’s Delegate Assembly.

This year, Board Member Chris Felmlee achieved the Master Board Member Certification. In 2024, Board President Amy Begemann earned both the Master and Advanced Certification from MSBA. Board Vice-President Barrett Glascock and Board Members Karen Bill and Chris Felmlee each received the Advanced Certification. The certification programs established by MSBA recognize local school board members for pursuing additional learning opportunities beyond the legally required school board training.

The school boards and superintendents receiving the award were recognized during MSBA’s Summer Summit held June 16 in Branson.
