Dear Southern Boone School District Families,
I am writing to share a potential update to the 2025–2026 school calendar regarding the last day of school. Due to an overall mild winter, our district has not needed to use all six built-in snow days. At this time, two snow days remain unused.
As a result, the district is planning to adjust the last day of school from Friday, May 22nd, 2026, to Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, with a 2 p.m. early dismissal scheduled for that day. Even with this change, Southern Boone will still meet the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirement of 1,044 student instructional hours for the school year.
One of the primary reasons for this adjustment is the significant amount of work scheduled at the high school campus this summer. Phase 1 of the new HVAC system—part of the April 2024 bond issue—will require a larger portion of the building to be closed than in previous projects. This work will involve extensive updates within classrooms and hallways.
In addition, several other projects are planned at the high school this summer, including:
Continued progress on the new vo-ag wing
Replacing gravel around the baseball/softball field with concrete
Potential replacement of the southeast parking lot near the outdoor stadium (pending voter approval in the April 7th election)
With so many construction projects scheduled and a limited timeframe to complete them before the start of the next school year, adjusting the last day of school by two days will help provide staff with additional time to pack up classrooms and allow construction work to begin as soon as possible.
The Southern Boone Board of Education will formally consider and vote on this proposed calendar change at the April board meeting.
We hope this advance notice gives your family time to make any necessary arrangements.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our schools and for being an important partner in your child’s education.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Tim Roth
School Superintendent
