The Southern Boone Board of Education approved a change to the 2025–2026 school calendar during its April 13 meeting, moving the last day of school to Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Students will be dismissed early at 2 p.m. on the final day.
The adjustment comes after a mild winter that resulted in unused snow days being built into the district calendar. Even with the revised end date, the district will continue to meet the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirement of 1,044 instructional hours.
The calendar change also supports a busy summer of construction and facility improvement projects at Southern Boone High School. Planned work includes Phase 1 of a new HVAC system funded through the April 2024 bond issue, which will require significant access to classrooms and hallways.
Additional summer projects at the high school include continued construction of the new vocational and agriculture wing, replacement of gravel areas near the baseball and softball fields with concrete, and potential parking lot improvements near the outdoor stadium.
With multiple projects scheduled and a limited summer timeline, the earlier end to the school year will allow staff additional time to prepare classrooms and provide contractors the opportunity to begin work as soon as possible.
