Bond Issue

Voters in the Southern Boone County R-I School District approved a $4 million no-tax-rate increase bond issue during the April 7, 2026, General Municipal Election.

According to unofficial results, the measure received 937 yes votes (76.9%) and 281 no votes (23.1%).

The bond issue will fund improvements, repairs, furnishing and equipping of school facilities across the district, including parking lot improvements, roof repairs and HVAC upgrades at multiple school buildings and campuses.

With voter approval, the district’s debt service property tax levy will remain unchanged at $1.7423 per $100 of assessed valuation.

“Our school district is incredibly grateful for the support of our community,” Superintendent Dr. Tim Roth said. “This vote reflects a shared commitment to maintaining safe, functional and well-maintained facilities for our students, staff and community. We appreciate everyone who took the time to learn about the proposal and participate in the election.”

District officials emphasized that while previous bond issues focused on expanding facilities to accommodate enrollment growth, this proposal centers on maintaining and improving existing buildings and infrastructure.

“These projects are about taking care of what we already have,” Roth said. “Thanks to our community’s support, we can continue to invest in our schools in a responsible way—without increasing the current tax rate—while ensuring our facilities serve students, staff and families for years to come.”

Planned projects include:

Parking Lot Improvements

  • Upgrade a portion of the high school parking lot near the outdoor stadium and city park with concrete

  • Convert the primary school parking lots to concrete

  • Resurface the elementary school parking lot and bus loop with asphalt

  • Upgrade remaining asphalt areas of the middle school north parking lot to concrete

Roof Repairs

  • Address sections of the primary school roof

  • Improve a portion of the high school roof

HVAC Upgrades

  • Phase 2 of replacing the HVAC system at the high school

Many of the parking lots, roof sections and HVAC systems included in the project are more than 20 years old and are used daily by students, staff and the community.

“This is truly a community investment,” Roth said. “We are thankful for the trust our voters have placed in us and are committed to being good stewards of these resources as we move forward with these important improvements.”

District officials noted that work on the high school parking lot near the outdoor stadium and city park is expected to begin this summer as part of the initial phase of the project.
