
Mrs. Rogers' 4th grade WINGS class made mummies from apples as part of their studies of the mythology and culture of Ancient Egypt. The students weighed and measured their apples before and after carving faces into them. They discussed the mummification process and put their apples into a special mixture designed to mummify them over the next few weeks.





SAVE THE DATE: Southern Boone Middle School will host a Community Open House on Thursday, November 10th from 5-6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend to tour the completed new addition and renovation project at the middle school.


Earlier this week, Coach Karr shared some important fire safety tips with students in the pre-kindergarten and early childhood classes.



Ashland FFA is hosting the first ever Ag Day 5K on Saturday, November 5th. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Mobility International.

Photographer Carrie Onley visited Ms. Stegemann's high school yearbook class this week. Carrie showed the students different types of techniques when using a camera. She also provided some great tips for taking pictures at school events.

Mrs. Jones’ 2nd grade class, Ms. Rehmus’ 1st grade class, and Ms. Helms’ kindergarten class are showing off the books they got from the Primary Book Swap. Every K-2nd classroom comes to book swap twice a month and each student can pick out at least one book. Students can get additional books by earning a book swap coupon, or they can bring in books from home to swap. There have been three book swaps so far this year and over 1,400 books have gone home with students. Books are mostly provided by donations from the community. The primary school is always accepting book donations. They can be dropped off in primary school lobby.




This week is National School Bus Safety Week! The purpose of this week is to emphasize the importance of school bus safety. Don't forget to stop for the bus anytime you see the stop-arm bar deployed.


The Southern Boone School Board of Education will meet for its monthly meeting on Monday, October 17th, 2022, starting at 6:30 p.m.
LOCATION CHANGE: Due to the school district hosting a New Staff Dinner before the meeting, the school board meeting will take place in the middle school cafeteria. The meeting is open to the public.

The Southern Boone Athletics Department is hosting a Winter Sports Parent Informational Meeting on Sunday, October 16th, at 5:30PM in the high school gym. Parents of middle school and high school students that plan to participate in basketball, wrestling and cheerleading in middle school and high school this year are encouraged to attend.

This week is National Fire Prevention Week. Students in the primary and elementary schools are learning today about the different equipment on fire trucks, fire safety tips and what to do in case of a fire. Thank you to the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District for visiting the schools today and sharing important information with our students.

Ms. Hammann's kindergarten class recently got to explore the inside of a pumpkin. They learned about the different parts of a pumpkin as they carved it. Students also got to practice drawing shapes by creating faces on our their own pumpkins.

With this week being National School Lunch Week, Elementary Principal Dr. Amy James had fun serving lunch today to 3rd and 4th grade students.
The National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children every school day in the United States. National School Lunch Week was created in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.


The pre-kindergarten classes took a trip to the high school today to enjoy a puppet show. The performances were by high school students in Mr. Nabors' musical theater class.
