Earlier this month, the Southern Boone School District earned state recognition with the Dr. Mary Richter Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support District of Distinction Award for 2022. One award is given out each year to a district in Missouri that demonstrates a firm commitment and dedication to improving the lives of students, the educators who teach them, and the community through innovation, creativity and a firm commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBiS). Southern Boone is an exemplar for other districts by providing a multi-tiered system of support for students and teachers to create a safe and welcoming learning environment for all.

Excavation work is under way on Perry Avenue in Ashland for the site of the new workforce development center. The Southern Boone School District, Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission, City of Ashland and Ranken Technical College are partnering together on the project. The technical school plans to offer skills training in construction, health and medical, information technology and manufacturing. Southern Boone School Board Member Barrett Glascock has been recognized as a Friend of Education from the MSTA Northeast Region. During Barrett's tenure at Southern Boone, he has served many roles on the Board of Education over the past 15 years. He is the current chairman of the MSBA Regional Executive Committee helping develop school boards across the state, an officer of the Southern Boone Eagle Foundation, Booster Club member and a supporter of Ashland Optimist youth leagues. Barrett also helps distribute dictionaries to all 3rd grade students each school year.
