🌱 Meet Roxanne Helmka – Learning Garden Aide
📍 Southern Boone Primary and Elementary Schools
We’re excited to welcome Roxanne Helmka to the Southern Boone Primary School team as our new Learning Garden Aide!
Roxanne earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Missouri and is stepping into her first official year in education, after previously volunteering in the district.
She and her husband have two children who both attend Southern Boone. Outside of work, Roxanne enjoys fishing, gardening, exploring nature, traveling, hiking, working out, and thrifting. 🪴🚶♀️🌊
Passionate about nutrition and fitness, Roxanne is eager to share her knowledge with students through the incredible opportunities offered by the Learning Garden. She shared, “Our outdoor classroom is a magical space to promote free exploration, spark curiosity, and encourage learning. I love when a student is brave and tries a new food they helped grow — and likes it! How rewarding!”

Southern Boone High School's Vo-Ag teacher, Rebekah Hammett, received the Heart of Missouri/Missouri Teacher Development System Regional Teacher of the Year Award on Monday evening! DESE will announce the semi-finalists for the 2026 Missouri Teacher of the Year award later this month. Congratulations, Mrs. Hammett!

During her student teaching at the Primary School, Ella was inspired by the incredible dedication of the staff. Now, she’s thrilled to officially join the team and be part of the supportive, close-knit community that shaped her.
Outside the classroom, Ella enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, gardening, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. 🌿🍰📚

👩🏫 Meet MacKenzie Black – Agriculture Education Teacher & FFA Advisor

We’re excited to welcome MacKenzie Black to the Southern Boone High School team as our new Agriculture Education teacher and FFA Advisor!
MacKenzie is a proud Southern Boone graduate and returns to her hometown after earning her Associate’s Degree from MACC in 2021 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education – Teacher Certification from Mizzou in 2024. 🎓
She’s entering her second year of teaching, having previously taught and served as FFA Advisor at Kearney High School. MacKenzie also completed her student teaching at Bolivar High School.
Outside of the classroom, MacKenzie loves spending time outdoors — camping, hiking, and reading are some of her favorite hobbies. She’s also a proud dog mom to Goose, a miniature dachshund, and Gunner, a chocolate lab. 🐶🐾

LOCATION CHANGE: Southern Boone will be offering physicals for students in 7th-12th grade this evening from 4-7 p.m. at the MIDDLE SCHOOL. Please use the middle school main entrance.
