
Primary School Counselor Karri Amelunke was presented with the Missouri Elementary School Counselor of the Year Award during the Missouri School Counselor Association's Professional Recognition Ceremony on Saturday. Congratulation to Mrs. Amelunke on this amazing honor!




Mrs. Dooley's 5th grade science classes are growing mold. Students are looking at which conditions either grow mold better or stop mold from growing. The reason for growing mold is to explore what decomposers do which is break down dead material. Students are learning about how mold comes from a mushroom spore which grows into a mushroom root (a decomposer) and starts breaking down the food.





The Southern Boone School Board of Education is hosting a School Board Candidate Workshop on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in the central office boardroom. Any community members interested in running for the school board are invited to attend. Representatives from the Missouri School Board Association will give a presentation on running for the school board, and the roles and responsibilities of being a board member. The workshop also will provide information and insight from current school board members.

The annual Ashland Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting is tonight. The parade starts at 6:30PM and will end at the Ashland City Park.
PARADE ROUTE: The parade will begin at the primary school, head north on Henry Clay Boulevard to the roundabout, go west on Broadway through Downtown Ashland, turn right and head north on Main Street and end at the Ashland City Park.


Today is National Special Education Day. This day marks the anniversary of our nation’s first federal special education law which was signed by President Gerald Ford on December 2, 1975. This law is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which made education available to all American children. This day honors the progress that has been made in special education.

Our annual Holiday Food Drive is underway now through December 16th. Students and parents can drop off food items or monetary donations at any of the schools. All of the food that is collected will go to families in our community this holiday season. Thank you for your support!


The Southern Boone County R-1 Public School District invites qualified persons interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 4, 2023 election. There are three positions available, with three-year terms each. Filing will begin on December 6, 2022 at 8 a.m. Filing will end on December 27, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Members of the Ashland Optimist Club came by the elementary school on Tuesday and gave each third grade student their own dictionary. Each year, the organization provides dictionaries to all third grade students. Thank you Ashland Optimist Club for your support of our students!





Kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year will take place January 4th-February 10th. You may register your student(s) at the primary school Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

The primary and elementary schools are offering a new parenting workshop, "The Power of Positive Parenting" on Thursday, December 1st from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Primary Eagle Room. The workshop will be presented by Sandy Miller from FACE School Based Services.

Third grade students read the book, Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade by Melissa Street. Students then created their own balloon creations and had a parade throughout the elementary school.

Thank you for making the primary school's Book Fair a huge success! Thanks to your contributions, the school sold over $11,000 during the fair. We raised over $6000 for our school, which is used for the library, classroom teachers, and all of our students!
